Ray2 Beats Sora: More Real & Faster
Luma Labs (the startup behind Dream Machine) has launched a new model called Ray2. They say that Ray2 is faster and more realistic than similar models like OpenAI’s Sora, with better physics understanding.
Realism: Ray2 can detect interactions and relationships between subjects, enhancing video realism.
Ease of Use: Users can create 10-second videos with text prompts or images though AWS Bedrock or Dream Machine.
Premium Access: Currently available only to premium users, Ray2 has been trained on 10x more data than its predecessor, Ray1.
This advancement highlights the rapid growth of AI in video generation, pushing boundaries in realism and accessibility. With competition heating up in this space. Ray2 sets a new benchmark for quality and speed.

Lost Chatbot Comes Back to Life
Scientist have recently managed to revive the world’s first chatbot, known as ELIZA. After decades, this chatbot still works perfectly.
According to LiveScience, while the idea of creating chatbots gained more attention after 2022 with release of ChatGPT, the history of such products dates back decades. On December 21, 2024, researchers succeeded in reviving the ELIZA chatbot after many years.
The original code for this forgotten chatbot was discovered in 2021, and researchers spent the past few years rebuilding its structure. Finally, the paper on this project was published a few days ago on arXiv.
The ELIZA chatbot had been dormant for decades but still works properly.
The original code of ELIZA was developed between 1964 and 1967 by Joseph Weizenbaum, a computer scientist at MIT. Although ELIZA seems quite basic by todays standard and compared to competitors like ChatGPT, it was very advanced for it time and even earned the title of the world’s first chatbot.
Weizenbaum gave ELIZA the persona of a psychotherapist, and the chatbot was so effective that even Weizenbaum’s secretly became fascinated by conversing with it. Weizenbaum initially implemented the chatbot using a language called MAD-SLIP on the Compatible Time-Sharing System computer.
Later, ELIZA became available to other programmers and they adapted it to different programming language. A decade after its initial release in 1977 the magazine Creative Computing published a new version of the chatbot, written in BASIC.
That year, product like the Apple II and commodore Pet were released, sparking a boom in home computing and the spread of the BASIC programming language.
Today, there are countless versions of ELIZA written in BASIC, but the original MAD-SLIP version was long thought to be lost.
Although the recovered code was incomplete, after much effort, scientist managed to rebuild and get ELIZA working again.
AI Wants to Add 10 Years to Human Lives
OpenAI, in collaboration with the biotech startup Retro Biosciences, has introduced a new AI model, GPT-4b micro, designed to engineer proteins that may extend human lifespan by 10 years.
Longevity focus: The project aims to use AI to enhance Yamanaka factors, proteins capable of transforming human skin cells into young stem cells.
Innovative biotech: GPT-4b micro has improved the effectiveness of two Yamanaka factors by over 50%, advancing the potential for regenerative medicine.
Strategic partnership: Retro Biosciences, backed by $180 million from OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, has been collaborating with OpenAI for nearly a year on this project.
This marks OpenAI’s first major AI project centered on biological data, potentially revolutionizing regenerative medicine. It could lead to breakthroughs in creating replacement cells, regenerating organs, and extending human longevity.
