Meta’s Plan to Overtake Google

Meta's Big Plan for an AI-Powered Search Engine

  • Meta is building its own AI search engine to reduce its dependence on Google and Microsoft.

This step is a big one in tech. With companies like Meta, Apple, and OpenAI moving to rely less on traditional search giants, this could change how we find and interact with online information.

iOS 18.1 Drops! What's New?

The iOS 18.1 update is finally available to all users, and Apple Intelligence AI is now accessible for those with iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, and the iPhone 16 series. Some anticipated features, like an advanced Siri, are still missing and will be included in future updates. Here’s a look at the exciting new features in iOS 18.1.

New AI Features in iOS 18.1

One standout feature in Apple Intelligence is Writing Tools, which lets you edit and adjust the tone of your text. This feature works anywhere text is typed—like Safari, Notes, Mail, Messages, and most third-party apps. Writing Tools also lets you format text or place it in a table.

Apple Intelligence’s notification feature is also upgraded. It now gives a summary of message content in notifications, so you’re not limited to just the start of a message.

Another cool feature in iOS 18.1 is Image Clean Up, allowing you to erase objects from photos. Open a photo, tap Edit, and choose the Clean Up tool to get started.

In the gallery app, Apple Intelligence lets you describe a scene from a photo or video in the search bar, and it finds it for you. Photo Memories also lets you create a memorable video clip by writing phrases like “pictures with my dog,” compiling related photos and adding music.

A small but helpful update in Apple Intelligence is Suggested Replies, which appear above the keyboard when you’re typing a message. Tap a suggestion to quickly insert it, and you can edit it before sending.

There’s also a new Reduce Interruptions option in Focus Mode. This feature intelligently manages who can contact you, acting as a smart Do Not Disturb.

While Siri has a refreshed interface in iOS 18.1, you’ll have to wait for iOS 18.2 to access the ChatGPT chatbot. The next update is expected to bring Image Playground, Genmoji, a smarter Siri, and Visual Intelligence (for the iPhone 16 series).

New Features for AirPods Pro and Apple Watch

If you have AirPods Pro 2, this update lets you use them as advanced hearing aids. With the help of a hearing test via iPhone, AirPods can amplify specific sounds as needed.

Dr. Sumbul Desai, head of Apple’s health division, says your hearing profile will automatically adjust across all devices when listening to music, watching videos, or on calls without any manual changes. Early tests show this feature works well for mild to moderate hearing loss; those with severe hearing loss may still need traditional hearing aids.

For Apple Watch Series 9, Series 10, and Ultra 2, iOS 18.1 now allows tracking of potential sleep apnea. Sleep needs to be tracked for 10 nights, and data is analyzed every 30 days. You’ll need to enable this feature in the Apple Health app after updating.

Other Updates in iOS 18.1

The iOS 18.1 update brings minor changes to the Control Center. Users can now reset their Control Center layout by going to settings and selecting Reset Control Center.

You can also now record phone and FaceTime calls. Tap the record button at the top left during a call, and both parties are notified with a beep and a message saying, “This call will be recorded.” Recordings are accessible in Call Recordings in Notes. If Apple Intelligence is enabled, you’ll also see a transcript of the conversation.

On the iPhone 16, the Camera Control button now allows you to switch between front and back cameras with a single tap.

Lastly, you can now share Apple Music tracks on TikTok. Just hold down on a song, playlist, or album, tap Share, select TikTok, and choose to share it as a video, photo, or message.

How to Create Short Videos with ToonCrafter

  1. Head to ToonCrafter on the Hugging Face website.

  2. Upload your starting image in “Input Image 1” and your ending image in “Input Image 2.”

  3. Add your prompt to describe the animation (e.g., “Walking man in the rain”).

  4. Adjust settings like Random Seed, ETA, FPS, etc., if needed.

  5. Click "Generate" to create your animation, then download and share!
