Google releases new open-source models
Google introduced Gemma, a new set of AI models that anyone can use to improve language understanding. These models are based on Google's own Gemini, but Gemma is open-source, meaning anyone can use it without any restrictions.
The Gemma models come in two sizes: 2B and 7B. They perform better than other models like Mistral and LLaMa 2 in some important tests.
While Gemma isn't as powerful as Gemini, it's faster and cheaper. You can run Gemma models directly on a laptop.
You can find Gemma on HuggingFace, Kaggle, and Google's Vertex AI.
