ChatGPT Can Now See What You See!

OpenAI has officially released the advanced video conversation feature for ChatGPT, nearly 7 months after its initial announcement.

  • ChatGPT now supports video conversations for Plus, Pro, and Teams users on iOS and Android.

  • The feature allows users to turn on their phone's camera and ask ChatGPT questions about what they see or share their device's screen for instant feedback.

  • Enterprise and student users will gain access to this feature starting January 2025.

This feature transforms ChatGPT into a real-time assistant capable of seeing and interacting with your surroundings. It simplifies troubleshooting and adds a layer of convenience, comparable to AI gadgets like Humane Pin or Google's Gemini.

Apple AI False Reposts

Apple's AI, "Apple Intelligence," mistakenly altered a BBC news headline, notifying users that a suspect in the murder of UnitedHealthcare’s CEO had committed suicide, which was not true.

One of Apple Intelligence's features is summarizing news and notifications for iPhone users. However, this feature has already caused controversy in its short time since launch.

In this case, Apple Intelligence changed the headline of a BBC article about Luigi Mangione, the suspect in the UnitedHealthcare CEO's murder, falsely stating he had shot himself.

This incident has highlighted issues with how the AI processes and summarizes notifications.

A BBC spokesperson confirmed they had contacted Apple to address concerns about the misleading headline and requested a fix. However, the BBC did not disclose the original headline or the full content of the article altered by the AI.

The false information was limited to the first part of the notification about Luigi Mangione’s supposed suicide. The other news summaries in the notification were accurate.

This incident is part of a larger issue with AI models, where inaccuracies or "hallucinations" can create false information.

AI has even been known to attribute fake statements to real people, leading to controversies. Developers are working to improve how AI understands and processes human communication to avoid such errors.

If the summaries you receive from Apple Intelligence seem off, you can manage this feature through Settings > Notifications > Summarize Notifications.

There, you can adjust which apps are included in summaries or disable the feature altogether.

Meta Joins Musk Against OpenAI

Meta has joined Elon Musk in opposing OpenAI's transformation from a nonprofit to a for-profit organization. In a letter to California’s Attorney General, Meta expressed concerns about OpenAI using nonprofit-built resources for private financial gain.

  • History of OpenAI: Founded in 2015 as a nonprofit, OpenAI, led by CEO Sam Altman, recently proposed transitioning to a for-profit structure.

  • Meta’s Opposition: Meta argues that OpenAI's shift violates nonprofit principles and unfairly capitalizes on assets built under its nonprofit status.

  • Support for Musk’s Stance: Meta supports Elon Musk's recent criticism, despite past evidence showing Musk initially agreed with OpenAI becoming for-profit.

This debate highlights growing tensions in the AI industry, with major players like Meta and OpenAI vying for dominance. Meta’s objections align with its own ambitions to lead in AI development, currently spearheaded by its assistant Meta AI. The outcome could shape the rules for innovation and profit in AI-driven technologies.
