AMD Beats Intel in Data Center Revenue!

AMD is now posing a real challenge to Intel's long-held position in the data center processor market. AMD's EPYC processors have started to outperform Intel's Xeon chips in high-end server performance, and this success is showing up in AMD's revenue as well. Meanwhile, Nvidia remains the top earner in the data center space, thanks largely to its AI and networking technologies, which are key to modern data centers.

  • AMD's data center revenue actually surpassed Intel’s in Q3, a major shake-up in the market.

  • Intel’s Xeon processors, once almost unbeatable, are now facing serious competition from AMD’s EPYC chips, which has led Intel to cut prices to keep up.

  • Nvidia still holds the lead in data center revenue, thanks to its GPUs and networking products that power AI-heavy applications.

This change in market dynamics is important for the future of cloud computing, AI, and server technology. Faster and more efficient processors are essential in these fields. With Intel feeling the pressure to compete with AMD, we might see more affordable and accessible tech. At the same time, Nvidia’s continued leadership in AI-driven data center components is helping shape how these systems will evolve going forward.

Users Hack Access to OpenAI's o1!

OpenAI plans to release the full version of its AI model, o1, with reasoning capabilities later this year. However, some users have managed to test this model using a simple trick, exploring its advanced features.

According to Tom's Guide, last Friday, users were able to access the full o1 version by changing a parameter in the OpenAI addresses. This new model can analyze images and access tools like web search and data analysis.

Since the release of the o1-preview model, insiders at OpenAI have boasted about the full model's capabilities after the preview label is removed.

It has been reported that the preview model was trained on a previous version of the GPT models, while the full model was trained from scratch.

For example, one user was able to use the full o1 to solve a visual puzzle. The AI took about two minutes to think through the problem, but it showed impressive performance with the images and other multimedia data sent to it.

In September, OpenAI introduced a new type of AI model that requires time to think before responding. This capability was added to ChatGPT in the forms of o1-preview and o1-mini. Although neither showcased the full capabilities of the final o1 model, they did show significant improvements in accuracy over GPT-4.

Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, stated that o1 differs from lighter GPT models. Tom's Guide claims that during a briefing with OpenAI, it was indicated that the full o1 version has made significant progress compared to the preview version, which this report seems to confirm.

A spokesperson for OpenAI commented on user access to the o1 model, saying, "We were preparing for limited external access to the OpenAI o1 model and encountered an issue. That issue has now been resolved."

ChatGPT-4o: The New Tool for Fraud

Researchers Find ChatGPT-4o Could Aid Financial Scams, Though Success Rates Remain Low to Moderate.

  • A study reveals that ChatGPT-4o’s advanced voice API has potential for misuse in financial fraud, with low to moderate success rates.

  • ChatGPT-4o’s ability to mimic voices and automate tasks has been exploited in scams, despite OpenAI’s safeguards.

  • The study highlights how AI can be used in various scams, including bank transfers and cryptocurrency theft, with scammers using methods to bypass built-in security.

This study underscores the risks associated with advanced AI, showing how its capabilities can be misused in financial scams, even as developers work to block harmful activity.
