Copilot Operates on Your Personal Computer
Microsoft's Copilot AI will soon run on PCs instead of relying on the cloud. This can make it faster and more private.
In the future, PCs will need special chips called NPUs with at least 40 trillion operations per second (TOPS) to run Copilot better.
Microsoft wants Copilot to use NPUs instead of GPUs to save battery power.
This trend of running AI locally is also happening with smartphones. Google's Pixel 8 uses a special chip called Tensor G3 for on-device AI.
Local AI processing can make devices faster and more private. It could also lead to a competition among chipmakers to make better AI hardware.
